Grand Theft Auto VI, Making Free Mode More Fun PDF Print E-mail

With Grand Theft Auto IV games going on most nights, the free play mode has seen a lot of action recently. In between the random killings and helicopter rides, a lot of different game types have been created and a few have floated to the top. Here’s a list of the best four. Of course, all these game types are self-enforced, so a good group of guys to play with is a must.

Tag:
The same basic game you used to play on the playground… but with cars… and guns… and vehicular man slaughter. All the hunter has to do is register a kill against another player, and that player becomes it. Only player kills count, so if the cops put the final bullet into your opponent, tough luck. This game type is best when played on a single island, or else people will get spread out to far and each round will take forever. To keep the game from devolving into “slaughter the guy who’s it” only the hunter is allowed to use guns.

Odd Man Out:
An evolution of the tag idea, “slaughter the guy who’s it” is actually the goal of this game. Whoever registers the kill on the odd man out gets thirty seconds to run before they become the odd man out themselves. Despite how it might sound, being on the run with all the other players chasing is probably the most fun part of the game. To keep things from being constant kill fests, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, and helicopters and not allowed.

Bus Wars:
Four busses with four crooks each fighting it out in Times Square, last bus standing wins. To keep the busses from exploding too early, pistols only. For added fun, keep your eye on nearby health packs to keep the game going longer. Finally, no getting out of the bus. If it lights on fire, then go down with the ship.

Road Warrior:
Another bus game type, this one is based on the old Mel Gibson movie of the same name. The goal is for one full bus to make it from Times Square to a predetermined escape point while everyone else is driving various vehicles (bikes recommended) trying to run the bus off the road. The bus riders get submachine guns while all the other players wield pistols. This combined with the difficulty of steering and firing at the same time evens out the numerical advantage. This is a challenging game type for the bus driver, as he’ll have to maneuver to pick up health packs as often as possible to keep the bus rolling.

Hopefully these ideas will help spice up your free play experiences and give you some inspiration to come up with your own twists. If you’re interested in playing with Arcadians, join our forums or come hang out on our IRC channel, #360arcadians on irc.blitzed.org.
